Week 2 NFL Pick’em with Steve and Alison

Week 2 NFL Pick’em with Steve and Alison

You can find the intro to this segment here.

It was quite a first week for Alison.  I’d say her biggest pick was the Raiders covering against the Colts and helped lead her to a solid 6-10 effort .  That ties her for 2nd among the CBS experts.  I went 8-8, tied for first.  Get their picks here.

Let’s continue our odyssey to prove that picking against the spread is a matter of chance…

Here are the week 2 picks. Every quote is a direct quote.

New York Jets @ New England Patriots (-13.5)

Alison – NE

“Mainly because I hear you take the Jets name in vain every day.”

Me – NYJ

“The Jet’s defense looked solid and combined with a discombobulated NE offense should keep it from being a blowout.”

Miami Dolphins @ Indianapolis Colts (-3.5)

Alison – IND

“The Dolphins seem dated – that’s a team that people rooted for in the 90′s.”

Steve – IND

“Until that Miami offensive line improves, I’m not picking them for anything.”

St. Louis Rams @ Atlanta Falcons (-7.5)

Alison – ATL

“As Bill DiBlasio probably just won the NYC mayor democratic primary, this is no time to pick an underdog.”

Steve – STL

“I like the Rams’ pass rush against a shaky Falcon’s line and a banged up Roddy White.”

Carolina Panthers @ Buffalo Bills (+3.5)

Alison – CAR

“Steve Martin was in the Pink Panther, and I love him.”

Steve – CAR

“I’m not a believer – the Bills have played the Pats tough before. Carolina scores a lot in this one.”

Dallas Cowboys @ Kansas City Chiefs (-0.5)

Alison – KC

“Cowboys vs Indians? It’s like Manifest Destiny all over again! They need to call the Chiefs something else. They need to reclaim their turf.”

Note: Wait until the Cowboys play the Redskins.

Steve – KC

“I don’t think the Chiefs will hand this game to them like the Giants did, and Arrowhead is back to being a scary place.”

Cleveland Browns @ Baltimore Ravens (-6.5)

Alison – BAL

“Apparently my spirit animal lives in Baltimore (my friend’s mom), so I’ll pick them.”

Steve – BAL

“The defending champs will be angry.  So will Brandon Weeden.”

San Diego Chargers @ Philadelphia Eagles (-6.5)

Alison – PHI

“If I had to move to another city in the Northeast, it would be Philadelphia. It’s not as pretentious as NY.”

Steve – SD

“I think Philly wins, but I’m not convinced a non-rusty RGIII doesn’t win that game last week.  The Iggles aren’t juggernauts, people.”

Washington Redskins @ Green Bay Packers (-6.5)

Alison – GB

“Oh, definitely Green Bay.”

Note: Alison somehow has very visceral responses to the Steelers, Dolphins, and Packers.

Steve – GB

“The Packers will assert themselves as an NFC powerhouse in this one.”

Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears (-6.5)

Alison – CHI

“Bears to Vikings is like rock to scissors.”

Steve – CHI

“I would only pick the Vikings in a ‘who wears more purple’ match (unless its against Prince) until Christian Ponder improves.”

Tennesse Titans @ Houston Texans (-8.5)

Alison – HOU

“Clear eyes, full hearts.”

Note: She loved Friday Night Lights.

Steve – HOU

“Houston’s defense will return to it’s dominant form.”

Detroit Lions @ Arizona Cardinals (+1.5)

Alison – ARI

“Cardinals are nice. They made me think of my grandmother’s back yard.”

Steve – DET

“A little too much offensive firepower for the Cards.”

New Orleans Saints @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3.5)

Alison – TB

“I’ve recently taken to drawing hooks for hands on my doodles.”

Steve – NO

“Geno Smith – 256 passing yards.  Drew Brees – ?”

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Oakland Raiders (-5.5)

Alison – JAC

“Jacksonville has a very nice airport.”

Steve – OAK

“The best thing about the Jaguars are a) Blaine Gabbert’s hair and b) their airport. And Gabbert cut his hair”

Denver Broncos @ New York Giants (+3.5)

Alison – NYG

“I think its about time that I show some allegiance to the state in which I live.”

Steve – DEN

“Denver looked terrifying.  I’m not sure the Giants can keep up.”

San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks (-3.5)

Alison – SF

“Hmmm 69ers vs Seahawks…WHOA that was a great freudian slip so let’s go with 49ers.”

Steve – SF

“I think this is a slugfest and goes to the wire.  Less then a FG for sure.”

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cincinnati Bengals (-6.5)

Alison – CIN

“You know how I feel about this city.  Their modern art museum is amazing, and since their downtown area is a little small, I’m sure they take pride in their team.”

Steve – PIT

“Steelers defense will keep this close, but the Bengals win.”

Alison 6-10

Steve 8-8

Steve Caronia is a New York City based physical therapist. The Cincinnati modern art museum is pretty cool.
